When Adventure Peaks offered us an introduction to winter mountaineering I thought it would be a few days playing in the snow.... how wrong I was! This felt like by far the most dangerous adventure I have done. On day 1 we learnt basic skills on snow and ice, including how to stop using your ice axe should you fall and how to walk using your cramp on's. Day 2 through us all into the deep end as we scaled The Ledge Route of Ben Nevis. Near vertical snow, rock and ice climbs with deadly drops on each side, rapidly introduced us into rope work and being cabled to each other. I'm sure it was very safe and it was always in control, but one slip from anyone on the rope and it would have pulled the others away from the cliff face. Day 3 was a fun day of abseiling off snow anchors that we had made ourselves!!! Amazing adventure and I can't wait to have another go!
